Hi everyone! Welcome to Take 9: “From Landscaper to Award Winning Radio DJ. The journey of Ana Cruz, a Mexican Immigrant with a dream and the courage to pursue it”.
In this episode, we’ll hear the inspiring story of Ana Cruz. She is an award winning blogger, radio DJ and journalist.

In this Episode
Ana had a difficult upbringing growing up poor in Mexico. Her household was afflicted by domestic violence. Ana followed her mother’s advice; she got an education and became the first person in the entire family to go to college.
Ana emigrated to the United States to pursue her American dream. She started from the bottom, working in landscaping and painting houses. But she always kept her sight on the goal: to become a radio DJ.
Her work ethic landed her the big job at CBS radio in Dallas, Texas. She was co-host of the “Shoboy en la Mañana” morning show.
During her tenure, the radio show was recognized by the National Association of Broadcasters with the “Station of the Year” Marconi Award.
She is also a successful blogger at www.rollosdemujeres.com, which received the 2016 “Best LifeStyle Blog” Tecla Award by Hispanicize. The organization honors excellence in U.S. Latino online video, blogging and media.

After a fruitful seven year run as radio DJ, Ana left her job. She felt that her style did not fit the new format the station was transitioning into.  She was afraid that leaving this job could cost her career in radio.
Turns out, sticking to her values and principles at the cost of losing her job, was the best decision she ever made!
Ana manages to raise her son, as she works a full-time job and runs her own business. She hopes her story serves as a lesson for many immigrants to better themselves and pursue excellence.
