This is our 251st episode and this week our feature topic is 24 Things to Do in 2024: How’d we do? This week, we’re taking a look at the list we had from last year to catch up and see how we did!   • Sophie: Our recording date today is January 15, 2025. Why am I telling you this? Because today, 50 years ago, was the GRAND OPENING of Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom! Picture this: a 2,000-member marching band, balloons, fireworks, and even NASA astronauts Gordon Cooper, James Irwin, and Scott Carpenter were there. Now that’s how you launch a legend!
    
  • Brenda: Let’s continue to celebrate Space Mountain with some really neat facts! At 183 Feet Tall, Space Mountain is one foot shorter than the NASA Space Shuttle. Space Mountain is the longest-operating coaster in Florida. Lastly, Space Mountain has two tracks: Alpha and Omega.
    
  • Mike: Closing out our special Space Mountain Cheddar: The tech geek in me loves this: Space Mountain is the first roller coaster fully controlled by a computer. As Sophie mentioned, three astronauts participated on opening day. Lastly, it would take riders 22 rides every day since Space Mountain opened to reach the moon!
