Tips for getting the most out of your Fall Trip to Disney!

Hey everyone, I’m Mike, she’s Sophie, that’s Brenda, and he’s Grogu, and we’re On the Road with Mickey! This is episode 237 and this week our feature topic is Tips for getting the most out of your Fall Trip to Disney! In this episode, we look at the calendar, and how Autumn is almost upon us! Here’s what we talked about:

  • Cheddar from the Big Cheese:

    • Mike: The hearts of the world are a little heavier now as we learned of the passing of Class of 2019 Disney Legend James Earl Jones at the age of 93 on September 9th. There are so many roles he was in; from the voice of Darth Vader, to Mufasa in The Lion King, my favorite is the impact he had in the movie Field of Dreams as the writer Terence Mann. We here at On the Road with Mickey extend our prayers to his family and friends that grieve his loss, and to a world that knew him through his work, and seems a little dimmer today.
    • Brenda: Whoop de doo! Or is it Hoop Dee Doo! Yes, that’s right, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue celebrated its 50th anniversary on September 5th!
    • Sophie: Over at the Magic Kingdom, TRON Lightcycle/Run removed the Virtual Queue and switched to standby instead. The change started on September 9th.

  • Listener Feedback: ABCs of Disney

    • Chandler chimed in on our question about the letter T! He said: “Tigger. He’s wonderful, bouncy, fun, fun, fun.”

  • Feature Topic: Tips for getting the most out of your Fall Trip to Disney!

    • Mike

      • Be aware of early closings due to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
      • Sunscreen still a must
      • Take in the scenery with all of the fall decorations on display!
      • If you are able to, take a day to enjoy the Food & Wine Festival kiosks! Perhaps eat around the world that day instead of making a table service reservation.
      • If you have the Disney Dining Plan, you can use your credits for snacks at the kiosks, but you’ll go through your snack credits really quickly. Another option is to purchase a gift card with the wrist band and load up some money on that and use that for paying for your snacks at the F&W.
      • I like to visit attractions that are more in-line with the season. For example, in the fall we’ve got Halloween, so The Haunted Mansion is a must.
      • Beautiful skies, crisp temperatures, these kinds of days are made for Disney attractions. Tom Sawyer Island, enjoy it one last time while we still can! We don’t go here very often, but a stroll through Storybook Circus sounds really enticing to me right now. Perhaps a climb into Swiss Family Treehouse as well?
      • If you are going to Animal Kingdom, a trip on the Safari, and a visit to Rafiki’s Planet Watch sound incredible also.
      • Of course, it’s great any time of year, but on a cool Autumn day, a ride on the Walt Disney World Railroad would be the pièce de résistance on a great day at the Magic Kingdom!

    • Brenda

      • Don’t forget that there are a lot of activities at your resort to enjoy!

        • Poolside activities, games, family friendly, carriage ride at Riverside
        • Tie-Dye shirts, campfires, silent disco, and on and on!

      • Heated pools! Enjoy the pools
      • Take advantage of enjoying things that you can’t enjoy at home! Namely, the Food & Wine Festival!
      • Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Disney’s Jollywood Nights!
      • Resort Hopping to check out other resorts and plan and dream about where you might want to stay next time!
      • Don’t forget about rider swap! The parents can swap who rides without waiting as long in lines.
      • December 7th and 8th, Dapper Days! December 7th is Hollywood Studios, and December 8th is Animal Kingdom!
      • The Candlelight Processional at Epcot, the Biblical story of Christmas; Scripture readings, put to music. Phenomenal!

    • Sophie

      • Dress in layers – Average temperatures in September are 90 for the high and 73 for the low. For October it is 85/66.
      • Remember the water parks. Blizzard Beach/Typhoon Lagoon. Rotating operational schedules.
      • Food & Wine Festival foods! Teriyaki Bao Buns!
      • Decorating your Resort Hotel Room!
      • MNSSHP & Oogie Boogie Bash – Costumes and Decor

  • This Day in Disney History for September 16:

  • Stump the Soph!

    • Wreck it Ralph

  • A little bit of Walt
  • “No matter what the provocation, I never fire a man who is honestly trying to deliver a job. Few workers who become established at the Disney Studio ever leave voluntarily or otherwise, and many have been on the payroll all their working lives.” – Walt Disney
