Samaritan’s Purse is continuing to provide medical care, food, and critical relief supplies to those affected by the Ukraine crisis. In today’s episode, Kristy Graham brings you on the ground to witness how our teams were knit together by God for such a time as this. Throughout the episode, you’ll get to hear testimonies of God’s faithfulness across our teams and the patients we’re meeting each day.

To give a brief update, Kristy first sits down with Dave Philips, a Samaritan’s Purse deputy director for international projects. He shares that the response is changing by the minute, but God’s hand is evident in creating the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to respond in this urgent time.

“We look at the news, and it’s important for us that we understand what’s happening in the war itself,” Dave explains to Kristy. “But there’s a story that’s underreported: what God is doing in Ukraine right now, and Samaritan’s Purse is right in the middle of it.”

Kristy then debriefs with the Samaritan’s Purse senior director of communications, Melissa Strickland. She returned from Ukraine to the ministry headquarters only hours prior, and Kristy asked her about the environment in Ukraine, the hearts of the Ukrainian people, and the wellbeing of our teams on the ground.

Melissa first mentions meeting Dr. Mark Agness, a doctor serving on our DART at the Samaritan’s Purse medical clinic outside the train station in Lviv. Although he is battling multiple sclerosis, he continues to pray that God will strengthen and humble him to serve his patients with utmost care.

The Samaritan’s Purse medical team works together seamlessly to provide around-the-clock treatment. Melissa shares the stories of Barb Rash, the laboratory technical advisor, and Regina Randolph, the charge nurse for the response in Ukraine. They have been deploying with the Emergency Field Hospital since day one, and have been natural mentors to those new to the DART.

“Many of the places we travel with the field hospital are places of darkness—places that evil abounds. But the Word promises us that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness shall not overcome it,” Barb shares with Melissa. “I’ve seen Him bring hope in the darkest of hours.”

From our medical staff to build teams to translators, God weaved the team together to uniquely respond to the crisis in Ukraine. To close the episode, Melissa told stories of how in the midst of brokenness, God miraculously revealed Himself to our teams.
