Questioning our Fears

June 16, 2024

“Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out. But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger. They came up to Jesus and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” But they were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?” Luke 8:22-25 NASB

How To Question Our Fears

  • Ask Jesus “Who are You?”

“ I AM the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation: for by ME all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through ME and for ME. I AM before all things, and in ME all things hold together. I AM also the head of the body, the church; and I AM the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that I Myself will come to have first place in everything. For it was MY Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in ME, and through ME to reconcile all things to Myself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of MY cross.” Colossians 1:15-20 NASB

  • Ask Jesus “are You with me and in me?”

“On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I in you.” John 14:20 NASB

  • Ask Jesus “Are You afraid?”

“…as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger. They came up to Jesus and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. Luke 8:23-24

  • Ask Jesus “What or whom shall I fear?”

“He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” John 6:20 NASB

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 NIV
