What is Metanioa?

It is change, a conversion toward God. In the book, Our Lady of Hoy Messes, Getting Real with God in Dive Bars and Confessionals by Leticia Ochoa Adams she says this about metanoia:

 

“Metanoia is not just any change in any direction, but a radical 180-degree turn in the opposite direction. That change is not easy because it begins with the acknowledgment that you are going the wrong way. It is not easy because it is not done once in a life and then everything is fine. Life has a lot of 180-degree turns. Healing, repentance, and conversion happen over and over in life. Just when I think I’m going in the right direction, I learn something about myself and have to repent all over again.”

 

Scripture

“Turn away your face from my sins; blot out all my iniquities.
A clean heart create for me, God; renew within me a steadfast spirit.
Do not drive me from before your face, nor take from me your holy spirit.
Restore to me the gladness of your salvation; uphold me with a willing spirit.”: Psalm 51:11-14
