13: The Funding Crisis for New Jersey’s Public Worker Pension and Health

New Jersey has a $150 billion unfunded liability for its pension and health benefits for public employees. In this episode, we discuss the measures included in Governor Murphy’s proposed budget – a $3.8 billion payment to the pension fund and $800 million is cost savings by making changes to the health benefits programs – as well as what else could/should be done to address this mammoth liability that currently comprises 22 percent of the state budget.
