Big Thief, Beach House and the artistic intention of long albums

February 17, 2022

It's a tale of two albums this week.

The fifth album from Big Thief (Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, 80 minutes) and Beach House (Once Twice Melody, 85 minutes).

Two albums which bring up the question of artistic intention, album length, double albums and formats.

Both albums had somewhat novel rollouts in advance with overloaded pre-release singles with Beach House's album split into chapters.

How does length, intention, artistic vision and format affect the listening experience of both? Andrea and Niall discuss.

Plus, we went to a gig! Dry Cleaning in the Button Factory.
