Yellow Star is an emblem of beauty, the kind of impressive gem-like stature that creates awe. Sometimes that lends to our appreciation of art, or of embellishing our clothes or extra coiffing, so that we are by accident reminded to represent the stars in ourselves. For the Maya, this level of intense beauty was what could also define a powerful warrior. Yellow Star was Venus in the sky, and its resilience, its identifiable largesse, was an inspiration for virility and even aggression.Think of the plumage of male birds, the mane of a male lion. These animals are protectors and predators who want to intimidate. In Yellow Star, we may have these tendencies, or actually feel victim to this intensity. There is a lot of male aggression already resurgent in society right now, and maybe Yellow Star pushes it so far along that some of us will be scared, oppressed and war-torn – actual or emotional – for a while.
