Video: Empowering Students and Staff: “Be the Spark” to Change the World

July 14, 2025

Caldwell Arts Academy is the premier Fine Arts magnet school in the heart of East Texas. Serving the students of Tyler ISD and surrounding districts, this K-8 program has a rich history of enhancing the whole child through the arts inside and outside the classroom. In recent years, Caldwell has advanced its academics from a state rating of C to earning consecutive A rating status from the Texas Education Agency.

“I think all schools have the potential to raise expectations. It starts with two things in my view. Number one, set realistic outcomes. To think that you are going to change anything overnight is a false narrative. It takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of energy, and you have to build a culture around that. Number two is your expectations might be lower than you’re willing to admit. So when you think about what it is you’re trying to do with student outcomes, yes, you might start with growth.” Dr. Bobby Markle
