Video: All Learning Beyond the Four Walls
North Lakeland Elementary School’s outdoor education program engages students in a standards-based curriculum which increases students’ academic achievement, emotional and social growth, and physical fitness. This video describes the environmental education experiences of 4K through 8th grade students in the community’s natural environment, the benefits of the program, and how others can create their own outdoor education program.
Says the principal: “The outdoor education program is really an extension of the classroom…We use not only science standards, social studies standards, English language art standards, but also environmental education standards that we have in Wisconsin. Everything we do at outdoor education is academic in nature, but embraces what we have here in the natural resources and talks about sustainability, interaction, and outdoor skills.”
