Disney’s Riviera Resort AND Universal Orlando: A Perfect Dual Destination Vacation
In this episode of the My Mickey Podcast, Nicole shares insights from her family’s recent 7-night, 8-day vacation combining Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.
The journey begins at Disney’s Riviera Resort, where Nicole overcame her initial hesitations about the Skyliner transportation to discover a beautiful European-inspired deluxe villa resort with stunning Disney artwork, spacious accommodations, and convenient access to Epcot’s Festival of the Arts. The family enjoyed immersive art experiences, interactive exhibits, and delicious festival food offerings like the grilled cheese with tomato soup from Pop Eats.
The second half of their vacation took them to Universal Orlando, where they stayed at the retro-themed Cabana Bay Beach Resort in a family suite offering excellent value, ample space, and amenities including arcade games, bowling, and two pools with a lazy river and water slide. Despite typically preferring Disney’s deluxe accommodations, Nicole’s family loves Cabana Bay for its affordability and kid-friendly atmosphere.
Their Universal visit coincided with Mardi Gras celebrations, featuring park-wide decorations, entertainers, and a nightly parade. The highlight was participating in the “Float, Ride and Dine” experience, where for just $89 per person, the family enjoyed a three-course meal at Confisco’s and got to ride on a parade float tossing beads to guests – a unique behind-the-scenes opportunity.
Nicole addresses whether travelers should visit Universal now or wait for Epic Universe, advising that current visits offer shorter wait times (VelociCoaster had just a 20-minute wait during their stay) and exceptional experiences, particularly when using Express Unlimited Pass. Her recommendation: if you can only vacation once, wait; but if you can visit multiple times, now is an excellent time to enjoy Universal before the crowds arrive for Epic Universe.
Whether planning a Disney vacation, Universal adventure, or the perfect combination of both, the Dream Designers at My Mickey Vacation Travel offer expert guidance to enhance your family’s theme park experience.
