SF #220 – Do Your Duty

October 15, 2015

Mordant & McFall tackle controversy in their usual Success-Freaky way by talking about what's going on in Kentucky and how to hold onto your beliefs while doing your job….  Or, get the hell out of the way while maintaining who you hold yourself to be.
In this episode of Success Freaks, the guys open with Birthdays, Weekend Adventures, and discuss how Belief is related to doing your Duty.  Mordant brings a Star Trek quote into the discussion of Belief coming into contrast with your J.O.B.  We’ll answer the question: Belief vs. Job Possibilities?  In the Level Up, Charles suggests that you should Understand your Choices and Mordant encourages you to set yourself & others up to succeed and remove yourself from a job that infringes on your belief.  And, in On Beyond, they tackle what Sacrifice can mean in a heated and very entertaining way!

Segment One -
This week we say Doodie a lot!  (Or, is it Duty?)  A very tired Charles McFall fills us in on his Birthday celebration.  The guys open with discussion of the Kentucky Clerk incident.  Mordant asks "What happens when your convictions get in the way of your job?"  Charles wonders if this particular County Clerk knew what she was getting into.

Segment Two -
Mordant opens Section Two of the show with the concept of Sacrifice and standing up for your Convictions. Mordant feels that you CAN continue to do your Duty even though your Belief may conflict with your job. Charles counters that the conflict might indicate you shouldn’t take that job.

Mordant quotes Star Trek’s Captain Picard:

Lieutenant Worf: Sir, I have acted within the boundaries of Klingon law and tradition.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: The High Council would seem to agree; they consider the matter closed.  I don't.  Mr. Worf, the Enterprise crew currently includes representatives from thirteen planets.  They each have their individual beliefs and values and I respect them all.  But they have all chosen to serve Starfleet.  If anyone cannot perform his or her duty, because of the demands of their society, they should resign.  Do you wish to resign?
Lieutenant Worf: No, sir.

Segment Three -
Listener Question:  “Should I pursue this job if it conflicts with my beliefs?”
Mordant answers: Perhaps not.  Don’t set yourself up to fail.  Weigh how strongly you feel against your need for the work.  Find another job if it’s that important to you.
Charles answers: Is the issue that you’re digging in your heels about Stupid?  Give the situation a good deal of thought.  KNOW for certain how important it is to you. Make your decision based on that.

Segment Four - This week’s “Level Ups”

Know yourself.  Know your beliefs.  Understand the conflict you’re having as best you can.
Charles’ Level Up: Choices matter.  Understand the choices you make and the CONSEQUENCES of those choices.
Mordant’s Level Up: Set yourself up to succeed.  Be prepared to remove yourself from a job that infringes on your belief.

Segment Five -
On Beyond Success Freaks (Here Mordant & McFall talk about how they “Go Bigger, Badder, Better, More!”):
The discussion heats up a bit here in the final section of the show.  The guys talk about Sacrifice and what that means.
