Do you feel like in order to lose weight you have to be perfect?
One of the most important things when you think about losing weight is to respect where you are and what is your reality. You want to lose weight, you want stay on your plan, you want to start fresh tomorrow. You want to prove to yourself for the final time that you can create the changes in order to get the body and life that you truly want. These are all true.
What is also true is that you like being able to eat when you want to eat, you don't want to pay attention to if you are hungry or full, you push things off till Monday or the beginning of the month, you want to keep doing what you are doing. You want to numb out with food so you don't have to feel the feelings that you are running from. You want to stay comfortable and not push yourself. These too are also true.
A lot of times we have desires that are conflicting and that can often paralyze us. But if you can realize that even if you want the things that are keeping you where you are it sets you on the path to start. If you think that all of those thoughts will just go away if you lose the weight, you are wrong, you will still have to deal with that, losing weight won't just erase all the habits you built up for decades but that doesn't mean you just don't begin your journey. Many times we judge ourselves thinking we shouldn't want to eat certain foods, and that we should be able to be perfect on our plans. We tell ourselves this shouldn't be this hard.
Sometimes we have to work on our conscious and subconscious desires and they do compete at times so we have to work on lining them up if we want to get to our goals. Our subconscious mind might be trying to protect us, maybe we are trying to numb out or find relief or we just need comfort even though our conscious mind wants to lose weight and get to our goal. So then we need to figure out those underlying desires, the subconscious ones. You don't want to just push these away, they will just resurface, take the time to figure out why you are making the decisions you are.
By doing this it allows for you to understand your choices and desires better, you can take ownership over them. Then you can start making small changes that feel doable for you. Hear what I have to say on this topic and more on the podcast.
