The Importance of Early Hearing Detection and Intervention: Wisdom from an Expert Who Knows Firsthand

July 29, 2013

In the early months and years of life a child is learning by leaps and bounds. And much of that learning happens through hearing. So how early – and by what means – can you tell if a child is deaf or hard of hearing? And what are the options for early intervention to improve hearing and/or help the child and family build on other ways of communicating and learning? Nicole Brown, this week’s Mom Enough guest, brings a unique combination of professional expertise and personal experience to this important topic; she is the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Health and the mother of three daughters, two of whom are deaf.

Have you taken a child for early childhood screening and, if so, were there any surprises in your child’s screening results? Share your thoughts in the REPLY space below!
