Makita’s Bio – Dr. Makita R. Phillips is a Thermal Structural Analyst in the Air and Missile Defense Sector (AMDS) at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL). Dr. Phillips uses computational analysis and her background in thermal and mechanical systems to determine the performance of flight systems. Prior to joining APL, she was an American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE)/ National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Postdoctoral Fellow at Carbice Corporation and the Georgia Institute of Technology. She holds a B.S. and M.S in Mechanical Engineering from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering. She earned her Ph.D. from North Carolina State University where her research focused on the thermal management of superconducting coil systems. She is also a former University of California Los Angeles California Alliance Postdoctoral fellow.
