Hayley Whiting – Royal National Lifeboat Institution
Hayley Whiting, Heritage Archive and Research Manager for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, has worked in universities, business archives and the Third sector before becoming the first archivist for the RNLI in 2013. With 7 museums and a support center in Poole, there is a wealth of historic material for people to access, and the importance of local links and engaged communities help keep the collection relevant. Amongst their varied collection, Hayley highlights their extensive photographic collection, their display of historic lifeboats, and a letter sent before the sinking of the Titanic by one of the crew complaining about everyday problems on-board such as ill-fitting shoes.
