Podcast Episode 127 – Classic Albums – Misfits – Earth A.D.

October 30, 2015

It is almost fitting that this episode has been delayed, until basically Halloween. Due to several stops and starts, other things going on behind the scenes with the various sites I run, it has been impossible to put this episode out sooner. For that I apologize.

Episode 127 focuses on Misfits’ Earth A.D. The podcast features Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein former guitarist of the band, who played on the album, and in recent years has performed songs by the band with their original lead singer Glenn Danzig, during his Legacy shows.  We also have Joel Gausten, who at 17 years of age stepped in and helped the band behind the scenes in many capacities, including jumping behind the drums to jam with Doyle and his brother Jerry Only while their future drummer Dr. Chud was recording potential vocalists for the band.  Joel is featured in the written section, and the actual podcast.   The podcast also contains comments from former Samhain drummer and current Danzig bassist Steve Zing, Prong mainman, and Danzig guitarist Tommy Victor, Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, the man that has played with a million and one bands, Gene Hoglan, Jason McMaster of Broken Teeth, Watch Tower and Dangerous Toys fame, host of One On One With Mitch Lafon, Mitch Lafon, from Witchcross and Ravensthorn, Count William Jannusch, among others.

You will find the podcast at the bottom of this post. You will also find links to the album on Spotify, or you can purchase the album from here.

Remember that you can go here index page to find out further details on everyone involved in the column.

Here are the comments Joel Gausten initially sent to in before hopping on and lending his comments to the podcast:

Joel Gausten - Back in 1995, I was in the rehearsal room when the Graves-era Misfits decided to play this album from start to finish, I think for the very first time . It nearly killed them, if I recall!

Joel recently witnessed the current inception of the band in Philadelphia, you can read his article recounting how this album changed his life here. And right on time for Halloween, you can read how he got to witness the first live appearance by the resurrected band here.

Greg Prato - Goth punk? Punk metal? The Misfits were one heck of a band. And they also served as a HUGE influence on Metallica. In fact, the fact that Metallica were constantly photographed wearing Misfits shirts undoubtedly earned Danzig and company some serious $ in merch sales over the years!

Jon Leon - Never was huge into misfits but they are legends.

James J. LaRue - This was too punk and not technical enough when I was younger, but these days I don't see it that way. I should listen to this one again, give it a fair shot.

JL - I am a bigger fan of the Danzig era, than any other by the band, tracks like Die, Die, My Darling will always captivate me, as will other tracks that appear on this album like Green Hell, and Death Comes Ripping. Furious, short and intense.
