The Signs That You Might Be In An Abusive Relationship

Your abuser’s apologies and loving gestures in between the episodes of abuse can make it difficult to leave. He or she may make you believe that you are the only person who can help them, that things will be different this time, and that they truly love you. However, the dangers of staying are very real. This is an emotional show today that is designed to get you to think – and think real hard on what happens next!
General warning signs of
domestic abuse
Does your partner:

* have a bad and unpredictable temper?
* hurt you, or threaten to hurt or kill you?
* threaten to take your children away or harm them?
* threaten to commit suicide if you leave?
* force you to have sex?

People who are being abused may:

* Seem afraid or anxious to please their partner
* Go along with everything their partner says and does
* Check in often with their partner to report where they are and what they’re doing
* Receive frequent, harassing phone calls from their partner
* Talk about their partner’s temper, jealousy, or possessiveness

NATIONAL STATISTICS

* On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.
* 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
* 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
* 1 in 7 women and 1 in 18 men have been stalked by an intimate partner during their lifetime to the point in which they felt very fearful or believed that they or someone close to them would be harmed or killed.
* On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.
