Testimony of Sr. Judith Gomila

Sister Judith Gomila, a native of New Orleans, is a Marianite Sister of Holy Cross.

In service of our church for 65 years, she is known for her practical spirituality and storytelling. Saint Ignatius of Loyola encourages us to pray with images and to use our imagination. Sr. Judith wants you to imagine the image of a dance recital because as her story unfolds, you’ll see her relationship to dancing. As she prayed with the thought of a dancing school image, she became very much aware of the life of that spirit of Jesus, that has sometimes been sure footed like tap dancing and full of rhythm. She was able to identify segments in her life story with great balance and beauty as an on-point dancer. But life as a woman religious has been described as acrobats or gymnastics. There will be no costume changes, but she would like you to consider looking for the grace laced opportunities. Blessed is she who believes that the Lord’s promises to her will be fulfilled.

Sr. Judith is the Director of Parish Religious Education. She has ministered in the inner city, on the Bayou and in the Alaskan Bush. She has served her congregation and vocation ministry and on the provincial leadership team. She worked in the Archdiocese of New Orleans as adjunct staff at Notre Dame Seminary for 16 years and with the Society for the Propagation of the Faith promoting World Mission for over a decade, she has been a consultant and resource person to the United States Conference of Catholic Mission Committee. As well as an outreach coordinator for the Black and Indian Mission. Office, both in Washington, DC, currently assisted. Judy serves the Marianites in communications and PR. She is on the Board of Project Lazarus, which works to heal and empower persons living with HIV AIDS and is also the on the board of the Clarion Herald Catholic News efforts. Sr. Judith has facilitated retreats, workshops and parish missions from California to Florida.
