Senior Scam Statistics of 2022: Is Elder Scam on the Rise in the New Year? –EP. 54– Life’s Third Act
It’s no secret that senior citizens are one of the most targeted groups for scams, identity theft, and fraud. Don O’Brien, an investigator with the Better Business Bureau, joins Attorney-CPA Joe Cordell and co-host Jill Enders this week to discuss the top senior scams of 2022 and what to watch out for in the new year.
The National Council on Aging says up to five million older Americans are abused yearly, and the annual loss by victims of financial abuse is estimated to be at least $36.5 billion. Mr. O’Brien elaborates on the most common scams that were seen in 2022, how seniors can better educate themselves, and what family, friends, or caregivers can do to help protect seniors from fraud. Falling victim to a scam not only leads to financial loss, but also negative physical and mental implications. It’s time to go into the new year aware of these fraudsters and their schemes so that you don’t fall victim.
