#154 - Peter Olympia - The Connor Man Defeat DIPG Foundation

August 16, 2016

Art Eddy and Ryan Hamilton bring on Peter Olympia. Peter and his wife have started a foundation in memory of their son, Connor. The foundation seeks to raise awareness and money in the fight against Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) - a rare, inoperable brain tumor. There is currently no cure, but the Connor Man Foundation is hoping to change that.
The Connor Man Defeat DIPG Foundation was created in memory of the amazing Connor Michael Olympia, who lived life to the fullest. On December 15, 2014, a few weeks after his fourth birthday, Connor was diagnosed with DIPG.
DIPG attacks young children, robbing them of their ability to walk, eat, and, ultimately, breathe. Once DIPG is detected, a child's average life expectancy is nine to 12 months.
Upon diagnosis, Connor immediately underwent radiation and chemotherapy for 30 days--the standard treatment for children with DIPG. After this intensive course of therapy, however, there was no other viable treatment option to pursue. Connor's medical team explained that any benefit from his radiation and chemo slowly would slip away as the tumor continued to grow.
Despite a courageous effort, Connor never regained his ability to walk or full functionality of the right side of his body, after a 10 month battle, Connor gained his angel wings on October 29, 2015, just three weeks shy of his 5th birthday.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Cure Fest is happening in September.
Here is an opportunity for you to make an immediate impact. Vote for the Olympias' friend Ron for Sienna Resident of the year and we could win $5000 for DIPG research. You do not need to be a resident of Sienna and you can vote daily.
The contest runs until September 15, 2016. It takes only a second or two to vote.
You can also go to DIPG Registry for more info to help raise awareness.
