The Diaper Bank
Did you know that a lack of something basic as diaper supplies can have a long lasting impact on mothers and babies? About 15 million children in America live in families that fall below the federal poverty rate. Many of these families work but earn low wages of have unstable employment; leaving basic necessities like diapers difficult to come by. And that can have a cascading affect on family finances and an emotional impact on parents and children.
This is a conversation with two young mothers who, upon learning of the struggles of young mothers unable to afford diapers for their babies, decided to take matters into their own hands. Michela Hugo, founder of the CNY Diaper Bank, and Cayla Clark, volunteer and former board member, sat down to educate me on the issue and the positive impact that they are making in their community.
