This week we start our new series, “American Idols.” In it we will be asking the question, What are some of the idolatries that we as Americans are most prone to? What good things are we most likely to make into ultimate things? This week will introduce the topic, out of Zechariah 10:2. The big idea: our idols lie to us, telling us what we want to hear. Our idols give us comfort, but that comfort turns out to be hollow. And though our idols look like they will bring us freedom, ultimately they become our oppressors. What can save us from these lies? We need a Shepherd who can lead us into truth.
