This week’s parable is the wedding banquet, out of Matthew 22:1-14. In this story Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a king who invites people to share in the joy of his son’s wedding. It’s a story about grace – how God’s invitation goes out to all. But surprisingly, not everyone takes him up on his offer. To receive this grace, we mustn’t be too preoccupied or self-satisfied to accept God’s invitation, and we mustn’t try to come on our own terms.
