This week’s parable is a bit of an Independence Day meditation: salt and light, out of Matthew 5:13-16. Here Jesus looks out at a crowd of people who would probably not think of themselves as society’s “winners,” and tells them that the Father has chosen them to be agents of God’s inbreaking goodness, truth, and beauty. Our focus will be how we can participate in this good that God is doing.
