This week we are on Word 8, “You shall not steal.” The Old Testament teaches that your neighbor has the right to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Consequently, we are not only to honor our neighbor’s personhood, but also our neighbor’s things. In OT law this extends also to fair business dealings, not deceiving or defrauding, and not taking advantage of the vulnerable. For us, this word challenges us to consider whether we are dealing honestly and fairly with those we do business with as well.
