This week we are at the hinge commandment where our attention turns from directly toward God to others. Namely, that we are to honor our mothers and fathers that we might live long in the land. Some have called this the most difficult of the commandments, but it is also the only one that comes with a promise. We will try to unpack what some of this might mean for us as we consider all of the complexity and difficulty of honoring our parents who at best are wonderfully flawed or perhaps responsible for a great deal of pain and suffering in our lives.
