This week we are looking at the role of authority in who we are becoming. Specifically this: the voices we give authority to shape our thinking. There is a refrain in the Old Testament that we often hear before God reveals his will to his people. It goes like this: “I am the Lord your God. Therefore . . .” God reminds his people continually that he has ultimate authority over our lives, and as such we are to live in his way. Yet all of us have other voices we listen to as well, and these shape us either toward or away from God. If we are to be shaped in the direction God would have for us, we need to be attentive that those voices are ones that reinforce God’s authority in our lives.
