Officers watch Arrestee Unlock his Phone and Use the Passcode in NJ v Tyrone Ellison. Is this OK?
An officer watches an arrestee unlock his phone to get information off it. The phone is seized, and the officer provides the passcode to the prosecutor's office. A CDW is obtained, and the Prosecutor's Office uses the passcode to discover incriminating evidence. In this Published Appellate Decision, the courts ruled that the officer's actions were proper in the State of New Jersey v Tyrone Ellison. Join Instructor Lt.
