Jeff O’Brien is a partner with Chestnut Cambronne and serves as general counsel to a wide variety of small and closely held businesses as well as real estate investors and developers. He has significant experience working with craft breweries, distilleries, and wineries on an array of issues including entity formation, financing, real estate matters, intellectual property protection, operational issues, securities law, and distribution contracts.


Jeff’s clients also include real estate agents, developers and investors, community banks, title companies, restaurant operators, manufacturing companies, franchised businesses, retired professional athletes, financial advisors, insurance agents, and consulting businesses. He is certified as a real property law specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association.


A frequent lecturer and writer, Jeff has presented and written articles on a variety of business and real estate topics. He is a regular guest on several radio shows and podcasts including Justice & Drew, the Minnesota Beercast (NewsTalk 1130 AM), The BS Show with Bob Sansevere (Tom Barnard Podcast Network), News & Views with Roshini Rajkumar (WCCO 830 AM), and he is the voice of the “Minnesota Home Talk Legal Minute” on 1500 ESPN. Jeff has a blog site, Jeffrey O’Brien Today, and a craft beverage law website which contains his articles, podcasts and other resources pertinent to craft beverage law.


Jeff has been listed as a Minnesota Super Lawyer every year since 2013. Previously he had been named a “Rising Star” by Minnesota Super Lawyers every year since 2008, a designation reserved for only 2.5 percent of all attorneys in Minnesota. He was named as one of the “40 Under Forty” in 2014 by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal.


Jeff is a passionate networker and prides himself on leveraging his connections for the benefit of his clients and others’ businesses. A proud graduate of the University of St. Thomas as part of its first undergraduate engineering class, Jeff maintains his “Tommie” credentials as a passionate supporter of his alma mater’s football and basketball programs.
