Ep 33: Howie Roseman & Michael Reschke
The Philadelphia Eagles' EVP of Football Operations Howie Roseman beamed with pride in February as he watched his team lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of Super Bowl LII. It marked the culmination of 18 years working in the Eagles front office but this Thursday, as Philadelphia hosts the Atlanta Falcons in this season's curtain-raiser, the team goes again. No doubt the foundations have been built upon since that frosty February evening in Minneapolis but here we take a look back at some of the work that went into the Eagles' triumph.
Roseman was joined onstage at the 2015 Leaders Sport Performance Summit in London by Michael Reschke, who is Head of Sport at VfB Stuttgart but at the time of recording was Sporting Director at German Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich. The duo talked building and sustaining a winning culture and ably compared and contrasted approaches on both sides of the Atlantic. Other items on the agenda included:
- The importance of service to the organisation above individual recognition;
- Reschke's working relationship with then Bayern Head Coach Pep Guardiola (now at Manchester City);
- Developing an understanding of what the best players look like and using that template to shape your organisational vision;
- The need to develop youth coaches if talent pathways are to remain bountiful;
- Helping players deal with the high expectations placed on their young shoulders.
