The 2001 Shooting Death of Dustin Wehde, The 20-Year-Old Who Was Killed In An Apparent Act Of Self-Defense By 35-Year-Old Mother Of 3 Tracey Richter

On the evening of December 13, 2001 Early, Iowa wife and mother Tracey Richter was busy taking care of her 3 young children when 2 intruders appeared in her house and attempted to strangle her to death.  Tracey managed to break free, went for her safe, grabbed 2 handguns and  fired 11 shots at one of her attackers while the other fled the scene.  Nine of those bullets found their target, killing 20 year old Dustin Wehde, a young man who was not unfamiliar to the family.  Tracey was hailed a hero for saving her family from this violent attack for nearly 10 years...until a new investigator took a fresh look at a cold case.
