In Folge 52 des KaffeehausTALK, Österreichs prämiertem Sport-Podcast 2022, ist mit Michael Fiala der Gründer von 90minuten.at und sportsbusiness.at zu Gast.

Mit einem Espresso in den Talk gestartet, plaudert Fiala mit den beiden KaffeehausTALK-Hosts Lorenz Kirchschlager und Simon-Peter Charamza über die Kunst des kritischen Sportjournalismus. Während er die Begeisterung für Sport seit jeher in seinem Herzen trägt, hat es ihm während des Wirtschaftsstudiums auch der Journalismus angetan. Begonnen hat die Karriere des Niederösterreichers beim ehemaligen Onlinemedium offside.at. Sein Wechsel zur Nachrichtenagentur pressetext öffnete ihm jedoch auch strategisch die Augen. Binnen weniger Monate wurde Fiala zum Chefredakteur befördert, um schnell zu erkennen, dass unternehmenspolitische Einschränkungen nichts für ihn sind.

Daraufhin gründete er die Panini-Online-Tauschbörse 90minuten.at, die sich schnell zu einem der wichtigsten Onlinemedien für Fußball in Österreich entwickelte. Für Michael Fiala ein Segen, konnte er doch endlich seiner wahren Passion nachgehen: Schonungsloser, ehrlicher Journalismus. Mit allen Vor- und Nachteilen. Auf der einen Seite freut er sich über investigativ recherchierte Artikel, die nachhaltige Veränderungen bei Institutionen und Organisationen hervorgerufen haben, wie beispielsweise die Veröffentlichung der Corona-Unterstützungen für die Vereine der ADMIRAL Bundesliga. Auf der anderen Seite erinnert er sich ein Leben lang an ein legendäres Interview mit Ex-Austria-Sportdirektor Franz Wohlfahrt und ein rot durchgestrichenes Interview mit Ex-ÖFB-Teamchef Franco Foda zurück.

Michael Fiala äußert sich u.a. auch dazu, warum er es für essentiell hält, Branchenkollegen kritisch zu beäugen, mit welchen Problemen die österreichische Medianlandschaft behaftet ist, und warum er sich mit der Gründung von sportsbusiness.at ein jahrelanges Ziel just zum Start der Corona-Pandemie erfüllte.
