Key Questions/Topics Covered
The Past
Mark fell in love with property management after he rented his first apartment. His leasing agent left a lasting impression, and Mark wanted to love his career as much as this person did. The funny thing was every job opening required two years of experience. This didn’t stop Mark for a second. With the help of friends, he found a workaround and started on his coveted career path.
Mark loves that he is in the people business and attributes this to his success. He figured out early on that if he was going to do great things, he needed to pay attention, show up, and learn everything he could. This ethos carried him through as he worked in different facets of our industry.
The Present
Life is change; we need to adapt. Training is a lot different today than it was years ago. Three-hour seminars have evolved into microlearning, where information is broken up into retainable pieces. Technologies and techniques have advanced. We now understand that people learn differently, and we need to make sure our training matches the learner.
Moving forward, we expect that training will continue to change and advance. Mark mentioned that he is fascinated at what the future generations will come up with and is looking forward to the future.
The Future of Property Management Education
To prepare for the future, Mark is focused on his personal growth and continued education. He likes to find topics that his knowledge is limited on and ask thousands of questions of friends and colleagues. Being an avid reader helps as well. And don’t forget about Google. Mark summed up his future by sharing this great thought: Never get to a point where you think you know everything and quit learning.
Property management is dynamic. Education is essential to help new and seasoned professionals alike continue to do what they love.
