Just A Dream Away
Christmas in the Most Magical Place on Earth
I have so many happy memories from my family's first two trips to Walt Disney World, in no small part due to the fact that we visited over Christmas week. While it must have been ridiculously crowded, I have no memories of anything but joyful days and nights. When Chris and I went on our Disneymoon, we got to enjoy all the Christmas decorations in the Parks, thankfully before the masses came down for the holidays. There are so many things I could say about Christmas in WDW, but let me try to limit it to ten aspects of experiencing the holidays at the Parks that hold a special place in my Disney-loving heart.1.) This really is the most magical time to visit Walt Disney World (if you have the patience and planning genes for it). Just consider how magical Christmastime is on its own, no matter where you celebrate. Then, add Disney's special brand of wonder and theming and you get a brilliant celebration like no other! Everything is better when in Disney, even Christmas.2.) It is such a great time to get away as a family! I don't know about you, but Christmas used to be extremely hectic for my family. To just get away as a family of four and enjoy WDW together was a perfect and peaceful Christmas (yes, even the Disney crowds felt less stressful than rushing around from house to house over Christmas). 3.) Meeting the different international Santas in Epcot was delightful as a kid. I was learning about different cultures and didn't even know it. In the future, I want to really concentrate on Christmas around the World at Epcot, as this is a unique Disney tradition that helps you appreciate how the whole world celebrates this special time of year.4.) Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom is our favorite specially ticketed event. It is so much more laid back than the Halloween Party and I seriously enjoy the cookies and hot chocolate (or apple juice if that is your jam). Chris and I were on our Disneymoon when we visited, but I still feel like this is a very romantic evening. The stage show isn't the greatest thing ever, but the parade is lovely. The fireworks may not be as fun as the Halloween fireworks, but they do an excellent job of ringing in the spirit of the season. 5.) The Christmas trees are their own treat in (and outside of) each of the Parks. See all the ones that you can find and notice all the great details. Really, please take your time and just leisurely stroll around these magnificent structures. Appreciate the hard work of theming that has gone into each one. Oh, and go to Resorts and see theirs too! You'll become a child again with a proper sense of wonder. Of course, all the Christmas decorations all over the Parks and Resorts are just stunning, always themed to perfection depending on their placement.6.) Seeing Cinderella's Castle all covered in sparkling "ice" is magical. If it is possible, this adds even more beauty to the Castle. Make sure you get a family photo with the winter-bedecked Castle in the background! (SIDENOTE: Just "no" to Anna and Elsa lighting the castle. I would have to be payed to watch that show. Frozen is not Christmas. Period.)7.) Oh Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. How do I love you? Let me count the ways! I love both versions of it, both past and present. What a hole will be left in my heart when it will be lost for all time. Thankfully, YouTube exists and will help me miss it a little less.8.) The Candlelight Processional at Epcot is a beautiful service and highly popular. The celebrity readers are exciting to see, but it is the message of the Lord's birth read directly from Scripture that moves me. The talented Cast Members and choirs bring forth the true meaning of Christmas in heavenly song. While you don't have to be religious to hear the story of the first Christmas, this is a particularly poignant service for those that keep Christ is Christmas. (Just sayin')9.) Added plus, if you visit the Magic Kingdom during Christmas week, you get to
