Walt Disney World Memories: One Family's Indiana Jones Epic StuntSpectacular Record

October 25, 2015

One family. Four Epic Extras. This is our story.Okay, that was a little dramatic, but my family has one of the best records, I would say, for getting ourselves into the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. Of the five of us, two of us have been in the show once, and one of us has been in the show THREE times. Not too shabby. So, let's take a little journey back in time to our family's Indiana Jones Epic Stunt story.1998...Dad's First Acting ExperienceOur first trip to Walt Disney World! Everything was new and exciting. I was really looking forward to the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! At this point, I had no idea though that extras were a part of the show. As a little budding actress and fan of all things George Lucas, I got super excited when the Casting Director came out looking for extras. My dad tells the story this way... looked longingly up at him and begged, "Please Dad, you HAVE to do it. I'm not old enough!"Well, like the superb and sacrificial father that he is, my old man hopped up like a total lunatic, jumping around and waving his arms fanatically. He got the Casting Director's attention and he was in! I don't know if I had ever been so extremely proud of him. We three girls reveled in our dad's fifteen minutes of fame. He was over the top throughout and, I'm pretty sure, had a great time being so corny. What a guy!One thing I distinctly remember from dad's first Indy show was hearing about the legal release he had to sign before being able to participate. I thought that was all kinds of awesome. Granted, it was on a tiny corner of a piece of paper with five other releases for the rest of the extras, but whatever. My dad had put his life on the line for the performing arts. You go, dad!2002...He's Back For More We had already been to Walt Disney World once before this trip. By now, I was a big Indiana Jones fan. Oh yes, I read the Indy books religiously. I loved this character and couldn't wait to watch the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular another time. (I should confess that I was a Freshman in high school and probably much too uncool for my own good.) But, I am still not old enough to be in the show. Guess who comes through for me again?Yep, my dad gives it another go. He has a taste for the theatrical. He is bitten by the acting bug. He can't control himself. He acts like a crazy man and gets cast once more. He might have a career in this.[Sorry there are no pictures for dad's big acting debut. These were the days of disposable cameras so no pictures remotely good enough to show his performance. Such a shame!]2009...My Rise to Stardom (or Extradom)My sister and I had decided that we were going to use our hard-earned retail money to take a trip to Walt Disney World. During our planning, our mom asked if she could come along too. Well, of course. It was a girl's trip for the three of us. (I can remember asking dad if he wanted to come and he was totally cool staying home. He had been to Disney enough, he said...well, he's been back twice since then and been on three Disney cruises. Ha! The power of Disney!)So, I was in college now in 2009 and I still loved Indiana Jones. I had also graduated from my high school days of dreaming of an acting career. But, the acting bug never really lets you go, I suppose. So, now that I was old enough to be an extra, I did everything possible to make sure I would be chosen. I made my mom and sister sit like three rows from the very front. I wore a bright colored shirt and was on the edge of my seat, ready to jump up when they called for interested volunteers. I got that Casting Director's attention right away! I was in!I won't bore you with little details of the whole experience (it happens so fast, that you don't really recall that much anyway). However, I remember signing that release with such ecstasy. I was all in from the moment they called action! I acted my little heart out! You tell me to laugh, I'll howl. You tell me to hit the deck, I'm down with a smack.
