A widower is set of on an amazing adventure by a man claiming to be a god. Like Indiana Jones meets Clash of the Titans, follow Dan Ryan through Egypt, Greece, and the Mexican jungle as he unlocks the keys to finding the lost continent of Atlantis and the Gods imprisoned there.
Eight years after its initial publication, Ancient Rising still captures the hearts and minds of adventurous readers (and now listeners) beginning their trek into the world of the Ancients. With Book I of the Rise of the Ancients saga, JC De La Torre puts together a fast paced adventure of a lifetime. Now, award winning radio theater artist Joe Bevilacqua breathes new life into the characters that make Ancient Rising one of the most exciting tales out there.
Bevilacqua introduces you to the Bev-O-Vision 3D audiobook experience, designed to completely immerse you into the story. He weeps when the main character Dan Ryan loses someone close to him. He cries out when Ryan exclaims in pain. He becomes Ryan, Doc Constant, Mina, Hermes, and all of the colorful characters. JC De La Torre takes you on a breathless search for the lost continent of Atlantis and Bevilacqua delivers each and every action packed moment. From the debut of the Greek God Hermes, to the pits of Hades and the rise of Atlantis, Ancient Rising puts you on course for action-packed fun.
Joe Bevilacqua, also known as Joe Bev, is primarily known as a radio theater dramatist, but his career has taken him into every aspect of show business, including stage, film, and television, as a producer, director, writer, actor, and even cartoonist. In 1971 his father bought him a cassette recorder, on which he created his first audio story, Willoughby and the Professor, acting all the voices himself at the age of twelve. In 1975 Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear and many other Hanna-Barbera and Jay Ward cartoon characters, dubbed himself Bevilacqua’s personal mentor after hearing a 120-minute cassette of Willoughby improvisations. Since 1980 Bevilacqua has produced many award-winning radio programs for National Public Radio, Sirius-XM Satellite Radio, and others.
Speculative Fiction author JC De La Torre was born on September 4th, 1973 in Tampa, Florida. Author of the critically acclaimed underground success Ancient Rising, De La Torre has experienced the highs and lows of the publishing business. From the thrill of great reviews for his initial foray into the world of Science Fiction/Fantasy to the failure and eventual closing of his publisher, Luna Brillante Publishing, De La Torre continues to press on to provide his fans the best in Speculative Fiction today.
Reviews!
"This audio production of Ancient Rising is touted as a '3-D Audiobook Experience.' I was pretty curious about that; what is a 3-D audiobook anyway? Well, it didn'Â’t take me long to find out. Ancient Rising is performed, and I do mean performed, by long-time theater and radio talent Joe Bevilacqua. DonÂ’t confuse him with other Joe BevilacquaÂ’s, the name is Joe K Bevilacqua. Joe does great voices for all the characters, and the whole thing is recorded in stereo. The main narration comes through the center channel as usual, but the character voices, along with sound effect enhancements, come from the left or right channels, giving the audiobook a real 3-D feel. With JoeÂ’s voices, the sound enhancements, and the 3-D recording, this is a top-notch audio production. Ancient Rising is a non-stop thrill ride through the world of the ancients. I found De La TorreÂ’s blend of history and mythology to be fascinating and compelling. I donÂ’t think youÂ’ll be disappointed with this one." - Audiobook-Heaven.com
"I really, really like the additional sound effects in the background. It's the first time I've encountered an audiobook which utilized this kind of creative license. If I am to make an analogy of this technique to cinematography, I would say that this is 3D technique in audiobook as 3D is to movies. And it brought a richness to the audiobook listening experience which I never had in other plain or '2D' audiobooks I'd listened to thus far. It really is wonderful listening to this audiobook. I enjoyed the 3D audiobook experience and wish the author and narrator would produce the rest of the books in the series." - cherrymischievous.com
"While the narration would be sufficient without the music, etc. (being like other audiobooks), Bevilacqua created a work of art that, at times, could be considered more audio drama than audio book. Music, creaks, sirens, knocks, rings, shouts - it's all there as part of the experience. During times of non-action (such as the character caught in thought), appropriate music guides the listener through to more gripping scenes. Bevilacqua's narration, in and of itself, is also superb, providing not just proper inflection, dramatic pause, and artistic narration, but a performance worthy of pairing to the sound effects. Thus, a consistent and appropriately-timed sound effect did not cover the narration, but complemented it to create a truly astounding audio experience for the listener. Listeners, such as myself, will find themselves so caught up in the experience that time will pass by with this emotionally gripping tale of love and loss." - scriptedgenius.com
"Mr. De La Torre has written a powerful tale of man's dedication to unlocking the secrets of the past, regardless of the cost or consequences! Mr. De La Torre seems to have a good deal of knowledge about the Gods and archaeology. He's done the homework and come up with a novel full of exotic places, musty-dusty finds and of course the Gods--those devious little schemers!" - Fantasy Novel Review
"This exciting fantasy thriller grips the audience from the moment Hermes announces to Dan that he is a god. The tale never slows down as other deities "interfere" in the lives of mortals and the rival archeologists compete for the ultimate prize, but major findings along the way encourage Theo's team though the actions of Graham's thugs dishearten them. This is a fabulous wild ride that readers in search of something well written, quite interesting, and very different will appreciate this first book in a great epic saga and look forward to more adventures." - Baryon Speculative Fiction Review
