What happens when two Jewish Latin Princesses get together behind the mic? We assumed we’d make a party, and yes, there was much laughter and celebration, but true to our Latin roots, there were some tears as well. We Latins we feel those emotions! You’re listening to Jewish Latin Princess, I’m Yael Trusch, your Host, I have Margie Szerer on the show.
Margie is a Torah Educator for many years, originally from Colombia, then transplanted to Miami and most recently New York City, where we met. She’s the creator of Live a Little Higher, an amazing online platform of Torah Learning where you can access everything from Weekly torah portion, to mystical teachings, to Ethics of Our Fathers, marriage… I mean, so much. And of course, the celebration of Jewish life continues onto Instagram, where Margie has a page with the same name: @livealittlehigher.
Margie and I connected first in the online world, and then during my latest trip to New York I surprised her at one of her Torah Classes in the Upper East Side of Manhattan – I just showed up unannounced – our mutual friend Nikki Schreiber creator of Humans of Judaism and guest on this show back on Episode 55, thought that would be a good idea. And it was; we had a great time!
So Margie tells us today how she became a Torah Educator. But before that, or as you’ll hear today, very much in tandem with that, she became a Torah observant Jew. So we go through that fascinating journey, one she definitely was not planning on. The role of her husband in all this. Margie reminds us that marriage is a partnership in every sense of the word. How does Margie define a “Joyful, Richer, Jewish life? Daily habits that keep Margie nourished, connected, grounded? There are spiritual ones, but then there’s a super surprising one – it wasn’t surprising to me, because well I get her, we’re very similar people – but I was very happy she brought it up. So, listen carefully. And of course, hear us cry – after all we’re Latin. Ok Ladies, here we go, here’s the lovely Margie Szerer.
