Jazz Insights with Dr. Gordon Vernick
Bob Wills - Part 1
Gordon explores an unlikely figure in jazz, Bob Wills. Along with his band The Texas Playboys, Bob Wills redefined hillbilly music by adding elements of Dixieland, Swing, Big Band, and even early Bebop into traditional fiddle tunes. Universally known as the The King of Western Swing, Wills was equally inspired by the traditional fiddles tunes taught to him by his father and the sounds of early jazz and blues like Bessie Smith and Emmett Miller.
