Episode 2, Season 8: David Bromberg
Season Two of The JamBase Podcast, a partner of the Osiris Media network, continues with an episode featuring an interview with David Bromberg. The legendary musician spoke with JamBase’s Scott Bernstein about his upcoming final Big Band show in New York City and a variety of other topics.
David Bromberg connected with Bernstein last week through a video call. The extremely talented multi-instrumentalist has one of the most impressive resumes in music history. After honing his chops in the mid-60s Greenwich Village scene backing the likes of Richie Havens, Jerry Jeff Walker, Tom Rush and Emmylou Harris, he started working with Bob Dylan. Bromberg went on to launch a solo career by putting out a string of amazing albums throughout the ‘70s. He still found time during that decade to do session work with the likes of Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and many others. While David Bromberg took a 22-year sabbatical from touring and recording, he returned in 2006 and released more stellar LPs.
At age 78, Bromberg is ready to retire from the road. David Bromberg will assemble his Big Band for one last show in New York City on June 10. He discussed why the time was right to say farewell and previewed an evening featuring special guest Jeff Tweedy. Bromberg recalled meeting Reverend Gary Davis and what he learned from the blues and gospel singer/musician. He also shared memories of recording and performing with Widespread Panic.
