About our Guest:
Jean Edelman and her husband Ric are the founders of Edelman Financial Services, one of the nation’s most popular independent financial planning and investment management firms. While Ric emphasizes the more traditional elements of personal finance, Jean focuses on The Other Side of Money, sharing her insights to help us see ourselves and the world around us in a positive, loving way.
One of the most successful women in the Washington, D.C., business community, Jean frequently speaks on entrepreneurship and leadership. Her book, The Other Side of Money, is a compilation of the many columns she’s written over the past decade. It asks the question: What are we doing to make our lives rich and fulfilling? Are we tuned in to the people in our lives? Do we treat each other with respect? Are we taking care of our local environment and resources?
Jean has served on several corporate and non-profit boards. They include appointments to the Rowan University Board of Trustees in 2008. As a student, Jean was Rowan’s first female president of the Student Government Association, recipient of the Distinguished Senior Award in her graduating year and named the University’s Alumnus of the Year in 1994. Her degree is in home economics, consumer economics, marketing and nutrition.
Jean and Ric are benefactors of the Inova Edelman Center for Nursing at Inova Health Foundation and The Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University. They also actively support Boys & Girls Clubs, HEROES Inc., Make-a-Wish Foundation, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding and many other charities.
Jean is also the dedicated mom of two trouble-making Weimaraners, Summer and Vicki, and a loving aunt to 10 nieces and nephews. She enjoys cooking delicious, nutritious meals for her family and friends, watching movies that make her laugh, practicing yoga, playing guitar, and dancing.
