Episode 90: Couldn’t Stay Away: Interview with Paula Finn & Ken Estin (Part I)

November 15, 2018

Andrew and Steve sit down with author Paula Finn to discuss her new book, Sitcom Writers Talk Shop: Behind the Scenes with Carl Reiner, Norman Lear, and Other Geniuses of TV Comedy.  Finn is the daughter of Herbert Finn, notable TV writer for such series as The Honeymooners, Jackie Gleason Show, The Flintstones, Gilligan’s Island, and Dennis the Menace.

Also joining the conversation is Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Ken Estin, whose TV resume includes Taxi, Cheers, The Tracey Ullman Show, and The Tortellis.

In this first part of a two-part episode, Paula and Ken discuss their experience inside TV writers rooms and the components of good comedy writing.  Paula will provide an inside look into her new book and Ken will tell the story of how his first professional script for Taxi earned a Writers Guild Award.
