Only Growing Weather Premium Remains

June 06, 2024

US and Canada planting weather premiums have come out of the market for corn, wheat, soybeans, and canola. The market is comfortable enough with planting progress to move on to the growing season. The weather does get hotter in the forecast but there is also much improved soil moisture compared to the past few years.

Grains and oilseeds are getting to price levels in the US that are starting to be more competitive with S. America and the Black Sea. They say "low prices cure low prices" and the market will be looking for increased export demand on any big price declines going forward.

Farmers need to sell rallies, consumes can hold off on coverage until the fall, and I think everyone should look to buy the harvest lows come Sept/Oct. There is a chance we could get to price levels that are at (or below) the cost of production and it is either going to spark old crop demand or reduce new crop acres.
