Surya Karki and Maya Universe Academy: Transforming Communities Through Education

September 07, 2014

Surya Karki left his home in rural Nepal at age eight to further his education in the capital. For the next nine years, he didn't return home, studying on scholarships in Nepal, the United States and Venezuela. Now, at age 22, Surya is giving back to the troubled education system in Nepal through Maya Universe Academy, the first free private school in the country. The school is part of a greater movement to inspire students and their families and to build a stronger community through learning-based initiatives.
