I’m really not sure how to summarize this interview with Chris Kurtz other than to say it’s one of my very favorite episodes.
Yes, we talk about his escape from corporate life, how he launched his company, and the realities of being an entrepreneur. And there are some good lessons there.
More importantly, we discuss kindness. It’s easy to dismiss kindness as being soft or unimportant in today’s world, yet as Chris shares a couple of short and moving stories, we are remined how powerful and necessary kindness is. We all know what it’s like to be treated unkindly and we all bear the emotional scuffs and scars of those moments. And we all remember those who offered kindness in our toughest moments.
But kindness isn’t always easy. It can actually be very, very difficult because the moments we need to give or receive kindness are some of the toughest moments of all. Chris shares how to treat yourself with kindness and how to rewrite your self-narrative. And, in a world where it’s easy to get wrapped up in our own life, he offers a first step to being kind.
I initially thought this conversation was going to be about business. After a preliminary call with Chris, I thought we’d talk about kindness. In the end, it’s really about being human and very much worth a listen.

Christopher Kurtz is the CKO (Chief Kindness Officer) of Do Good. Be Kind.®, an organization whose mission is to reintroduce the values of accountability and kindness back into schools and the workplace. He is also the Founder and Principal at PeerThru, LLC, an independent agency that helps clients manage and capitalize on insights from their presence on review sites like Glassdoor and Indeed. 
Prior to forming Do Good. Be Kind.®, Chris led a wide range of high-performing, diverse teams in both start-up and large multi-nationals.  
Chris believes that people perform best when they feel appreciated, that leadership is simple but not simplistic, and that the secret to a happy life is found in the pursuit of harmony, not balance. 
Chris is a devoted husband and father of four stinky boys and currently resides on the North Shore of Oahu.
