Illuminating Anorexia & Eating Disorder Recovery

“Eating Disorders are (?not) a choice”

December 23, 2016

“Eating Disorders are not a choice” is a half truth that is unhelpful because it suggests that a person is powerless to get free from their ED. Nothing could be further from the truth. No one and nothing is more powerful than the affected person’s choice (over time and in situation after situation) in getting both into and out of the bondage of an eating disorder. That’s not to say the journey out of an eating disorder is easy or without great challenge, and that’s not to say it can be done without understanding, compassion, support, knowledge and tools. All of these are needed. But to say “an eating disorder is not a choice,” disempowers the most powerful person in the equation (the person with the ED), and robs them of two of their greatest weapons in the fight for freedom – hope and courage!  If you need help to get FREE from your ED it would be my pleasure to assist you.
