Topic: Because horses move their head, neck and legs a lot, we tend to look only there in order to assess balance. But the truth is up higher, in the back and top of the hindquarters. Deb and I discuss all the different ways we can visually find clues about our horse's coordination. If we simplify engagement into "stability" and disengagement into "instability" then the more we see our horse's pelvic bones and back move, the more unstable or disengaged the hindquarters are. When our horse is engaged, we cannot see the pelvic bones move, just the muscles. Tips and ways to develop our eye for balance are also discussed in this episode.
