Topic: Stress responses are trigged in different individuals by very different things. What causes a stress response can be related to thoughts, emotions, physical coordination or instincts, but the effect of a stress response is always the same in us and our horse. Stress responses deplete health. When severe or chronic, stress can result in many different kinds of health issues. When we take the time to look past behavior or past words, we can tune into energy and body language in order to see if what is motivating any action or words is essentially stress or relaxation. We can do this for ourselves, and begin seeking small ways to reduce stress and regain the relaxation response, and we can help our horse do the same. We may have to slow down a bit in order to figure out how for each individual, but just shifting from a stress response into a relaxation response is one of the easiest ways we can support health.
