While the center of mass or center of gravity is a static location in a three dimensional body, the point of balance moves and acts as an instant center of rotation. The body organizes around this central axis, so when the point of balance is not centered and stable, then the body organizes dysfunctional use but can still maintain enough stability to do tasks and get the job done. Understanding the differences between people and horse's point of balance is also another piece of helping us ride better, develop our horse into healthy ideal balance and feel our way through various challenges.
